As I am struggling to keep myself and my family cool in these recent days and nights, I have felt a great admiration and gratitude to our local firefighters that have been battling a huge wildfire on our local common over these last few days. Seeing such devastating wildfires happen so close to home has been a real reminder that the world is burning. From the Arctic to Australia we are losing important habitats to an increasing number of wildfires. Not only are animal species being pushed to extinction, but we are losing the tress that are the earth’s lungs and melting permafrost that will release alarming amounts of carbon into the atmosphere.
Feeling a real need to take action I have therefore been searching for a way to help and after a bit of research I have decided to donate some money to the World Land Trust’s Wildfire Appeal.
“WLT is an international conservation charity that protects the world’s most biologically significant and threatened habitats acre by acre.” With patrons such as Sir David Attenborough and Steve Backshall I know I am sending my money to a good cause.
However once I started reading about the work of the World Land Trust, I felt compelled to not only support the Wildfire Appeal but to also donate to them on a monthly basis to support all of their other amazing work. It makes me feel better to know that I can help in this small way for something that is so important.
In the words of Sir David Attenborough “The money that is given to the World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of.”
