Sometimes we all need a bit of a kick up the backside. In the BBC1 “Extinction: The Facts” Sir David Attenborough did exactly that.
For over a year now I have been steadily working my way through the changes that I need to make to lower my impact on the world and live more sustainably. However, the shockingly rapid decline of our world outlined in this programme reminded me that we all need to go much further and much faster.
This pandemic has undoubtedly slowed my progress on this mission (mainly due to the relentlessness of my boys), however it has also shown me just how quickly we can take drastic action if we really need to. As time is now running short for us to avoid the predicted catastrophic consequences for our planet, I really do hope that enough people are watching this programme and not only feel the despair of what we have done, but more importantly the resolve to try to do something about it.
Yes, making the necessary changes to almost every aspect of our lives does take a bit more thought and time, but as per one of my favourite motto’s:
“Nobody is too busy, it is just a matter of priorities.”
