Spot the difference?

Back in March we had a day out at Polesden Lacey. We would usually have taken a picnic with us but I had been particularly disorganised that day and so I was very happy to see that they were at least using sustainable cups, plates and sandwich packaging in the café. However, when it came to throwing the rubbish away I couldn’t work out which bin I was supposed to put it in? General Waste and Compostable or Plastics, Cans, Card and Paper? Where do the compostable plant plastics go?
It is brilliant that they are using such sustainable items however if they are ultimately put in the wrong bin it is not fulfilling its purpose.
So back in March I wrote to Polesden Lacey and gave them my feedback on the bin confusion. They quickly replied and said that they were awaiting new bins and would look into it, however on our return to Polesden Lacey today I saw that even though they haven’t got their new bins yet they HAVE now added additional signage to the bins with some more detailed guidance. (You can’t read what it says in my picture but it is there on the signs at the top!) It just shows that using your voice can actually have an impact and prompt a positive change.
On this same note, back when I started looking into my local recycling options I sent an email to my local Morrisons asking them to please provide a collection point for plastic bags and I also asked my local Sainsburys to update their plastic bag collection point with proper signage so that it could be identified for what it was. Miraculously a few weeks later of both of my requests were fulfilled. Now I am not saying that it was definitely my emails that made it happen, it was probably more of a happy coincidence but WHAT IF it was my emails that prompted the action?
I will therefore be continuing to send my quick fire emails where I see improvements can be made, as you never know it might just work.
