Seaspiracy

If you haven’t watched Seaspiracy yet, please do. In short we are destroying the natural balance of our oceans at a terrifying pace which in turn will risk the survival of all life on Earth.

Unfortunately I am not even being over dramatic. The Seaspiracy documentary is actually one of the most uncomfortable programmes that I have had to watch as it really does lay bare the shocking facts of the destruction that we are causing on an unimaginable scale.

I was almost in tears towards the end of the programme, however there was at least some good news in that there are already a lot of people around the world fighting for our oceans and more importantly that we can all as individuals make a huge difference just by reducing (or stopping) our consumption of seafood.

Seaspiracy is calling for action in 3 ways:

1. SHIFT TO A PLANT-BASED DIET

2. ENFORCE NO-CATCH MARINE RESERVES PROTECTING 30% OF OUR OCEANS BY 2030

3. END FISHING SUBSIDIES[CURRENTLY $35 BILLION PER YEAR]

I have therefore signed the Seaspiracy petition as well these other petitions that I have found.

We cannot stop climate change if we do not protect our oceans. When asked how we can do that the founder of Sea Shepherd, Captain Paul Watson simply says “Leave it alone.”
